Local Media San Diego Top 40 Z90 and Morning Show host Rick Morton made a special phone call last Friday, notifying Ashley Reese of Hillcrest that she won the $10,000 cash grand prize in a sweepstakes hosted by the radio station.
Reese was randomly selected among over 250,000 entries by listeners over a 5-week period to win “Rick Morton’s $10,000 Pay Day.” Listeners were encouraged to hear code words announced on the air, and enter them on the station website for entry. Additional code words for additional entries were available at participating San Diego County Credit Union locations, and in social media posts by the radio station. Thousands entered, but only one San Diego listener could win.
“After weeks of words and all the build up, it feels AWESOME to finally giveaway $10,000 to a Z90 listener,” said Morton. “I’m so happy for Ashley, she really put in the effort to listen and win, and it paid off big. It’s a great feeling to give such a massive reward to someone right here in our hometown.”
The locally run cash sweepstakes runs counter to ones operated by corporate radio broadcasters, in which listeners compete against participants nationwide. A recent contest on multiple corporately-owned stations here, as well as 922 other radio markets, offered a $1,000 prize, and no guarantee that anyone in San Diego would win.
“We’re so happy for Ashley and her family from Mission Valley,” said Z90 Program Director R Dub! “We love rewarding our loyal, local listeners with awesome prizes—the stuff the corporate radio stations can’t and won’t do. 10K for Ashley? Oh yes we did. And wait ‘til you see what’s next!”
