Tina Turner (1939-2023)

Legendary singer Tina Turner, one of the top recording artists of all time, died on Wednesday at the age of 83. The news was announced on Turner’s official Facebook page.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.

In a statement, Turner’s spokesperson confirmed, “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

She was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee. Turner became famous in the late 1960s as the singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. After leaving husband Ike Turner she staged what one of the greatest comebacks in pop music history, scoring massive solo hits in the 1980s including with “What’s Love Got To Do With it,” “Private Dancer,” “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome),” and “The Best.” Tina Turner has sold over 180 million albums is a 12x Grammy Award winner and has sold-out stadium tours around the world.
