Fans and entertainers are mourning rapper Mac Miller, who passed away suddenly on Friday from a reported overdose. Miller’s family released a statement to TMZ, saying, “Malcolm McCormick known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers.”
In a statement released Friday evening, Warner Bros. Records Co-Chairman/COO Tom Corson said, “All of us at Warner Bros. Records are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news of Mac Miller’s untimely passing. Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artist, with a pioneering spirit and a sense of humor that touched everyone he met. Mac’s death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life and a talent of huge potential, where the possibilities felt limitless. We join all of his fans across the globe in extending our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.”
Miller’s fall tour of North America was officially canceled soon after news broke. According to Billboard, Miller’s final performance was on April 29 at the Smoker’s Club festival in Long Beach, CA.
His fellow musicians and celebrities have been memorializing Miller on social media.
I dont know what to say Mac Miller took me on my second tour ever. But beyond helping me launch my career he was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew. Great man. I loved him for real. Im completely broken. God bless him.
