FMQB has collected many of the tweets and statements online following the death of Adam “MCA” Yauch of the Beastie Boys, who passed away today from cancer at the age of 47.
MTV has announced that tonight (5/4) at 8 p.m. ET, it will present a one-hour live special remembering Yauch from its Times Square newsroom and hosted by MTV News’ Sway Calloway. The special will highlight the Beastie Boys and Yauch’s career through music videos, performances, MTV moments and remembrances from his peers. The special will re-air at 11pm ET/PT on MTV2.
Additionally, Van Toffler, President of MTV Music Group, said in a statement, “Lots of us at MTV grew up with Adam and his Beastie brothers. He had a keen artistic eye and great wit that helped shape so many of the group’s music and videos. He made us want to rock, scream and laugh all in one breath. We will miss him as will his many fans.”
Russell Simmons, a longtime friend of the Beasties, said on his Global Grind website, “Adam was incredibly sweet and the most sensitive artist, who I loved dearly. I was always inspired by his work. He will be missed by all of us.”
