The Weeknd landed the biggest debut chart week on the Billboard 200 thus far in 2020 with his newest album After Hours. Arriving atop the chart, After Hours earned 444,000 equivalent album units, with 275,000 in album sales, primarily due to a bundling with tickets for the singer’s upcoming tour. However, Billboard notes that The Weeknd’s streaming numbers were so massive, that After Hours still would have debuted at #1 even without a single sale of the album. Even still, After Hours had the second-largest sales week so far this year, behind BTS’ Map of the Soul: 7. It is The Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye)’s four release in a row to hit #1 on the Billboard 200.
The Weeknd also released a deluxe edition of After Hours days after it arrived with multiple remixes and today has added even more tracks with a streaming-only extra-deluxe edition with three new songs tacked on.
Rapper Lil Uzi Vert is at #2 with Eternal Awake, followed by Lil Baby at #3 with My Turn and Bad Bunny‘s YHLQMDLG at #4. The next-highest debut comes from Conan Gray and his debut full-length Kid Kraw at #5. The singer-songwriter made his name on YouTube and released his debut EP in late 2018.
Roddy Ricch is at #6, with Post Malone at #7 and Jhené Aiko at #8. Following his passing, Kenny Rogers hit the Billboard top 10 for the first time in decades, with his greatest hits collection The Best of Kenny Rogers: Through the Years coming in at #9.
The top 10 is rounded out by the soundtrack to Frozen II, following its recent early digital release on Disney+.
