The Hamilton Mixtape, a collection of covers of songs from the smash hit musical and tunes inspired by the show, debuts at #1 on this week’s Billboard 200 chart. The album features contributions from Sia, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, The Roots and many other artists. The Hamilton Mixtape earned 187,000 equivalent album units, 169,000 of which were traditional album sales. The Broadway cast recording of the Hamilton soundtrack is at #11 this week and is overall the fifth-best selling release of 2016.
At #2 is Starboy from The Weeknd, with A Pentatonix Christmas at #3.
The second-biggest debut on the chart this week comes from The Rolling Stones, whose new covers record Blue & Lonesome gives the rockers their 37th Top 10 album in their career. The Stones have more Top 10 albums in their career than any other artist in chart history. Childish Gambino (aka actor Donald Glover) debuts at #5 with his newest album Awaken, My Love! It is the highest charting album of his career.
Bruno Mars is at #6 with 24K Magic, followed by the Moana soundtrack at #7 and another Pentatonix holiday release, That’s Christmas to Me, at #8.
The Top 10 is rounded out with a pair of chart debuts. America’s Got Talent winner Grace VanderWaal‘s EP Perfectly Imperfect arrives at #9 with Country artist Kane Brown at #10 with his eponymous first full-length album.
