The American Music Awards were handed out last night (11/22) and Taylor Swift added to her record-breaking total, earning three more AMAs. Swift was named Artist of the Year and also won for Favorite Music Video (“Cardigan”) and Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock. Swift already held the record for the most AMAs of all-time and now has 32 wins in total.
The Weeknd also won three times on Sunday night, earning Favorite Male Artist – Soul/R&B, Favorite Album – Soul/R&B and Favorite Song – Soul/R&B (“Heartless”). Additionally, he performed “In Your Eyes” and “Save Your Tears” during the show with an assist from Kenny G.
Country duo Dan + Shay won three AMAs as well, two of which for their collaboration with Justin Bieber, “10,000 Hours.”
Other multiple winners included Doja Cat for New Artist of the Year and Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B and BTS for Favorite Social Artist and Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock.
Performances during the show included Billie Eilish, performing her new single “Therefore I Am” live for the first time, Megan Thee Stallion performed “Body” off her just-released album Good News and Dua Lipa defied gravity while singing “Levitating” in London. Katy Perry duetted with Darius Rucker for her first performance since giving birth to her daughter Daisy this summer.
Some performers and award-winners were live in L.A.’s Microsoft Theater with a limited audience, while others checked in remotely, including Swift.
