Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift was the big winner at Tuesday night’s American Music Awards. The music superstar broke an AMA record after winning four awards (Tour of the Year, Favorite Album – Pop/Rock, Favorite Female Artist Pop/Rock and Artist of the Year), giving her 23 in total. This surpassed Whitney Houston‘s previous total as the female artist with the most total AMAs. Swift kicked off the show with a performance of “I Did Something Bad” as well. After winning her Favorite Album AMA, she gave an impassioned speech urging viewers to “get out and vote” in next month’s midterm elections. This follows her online post over the weekend, where the traditionally politically-shy Swift announced her support for the Democratic nominees in Tennessee, which some have said prompted an increase in voter registration in recent days.

Camila Cambello also won four AMAs, as New Artist of the Year as well as three for her hit “Havana”: Collaboration of the Year (alongside Young Thug), Video of the Year and Favorite Song – Pop/Rock. Post Malone was named Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock and earned the Favorite Album – Rap/Hip Hop AMA. Cardi B took home multiple AMAs, for Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip Hop, Favorite Song – Rap/Hip Hop (“Bodak Yellow”) and for her collaboration with Bruno Mars on “Finesse” as Favorite Song – Soul/R&B.

Other notable winners included Migos, Panic! at the Disco, Rihanna, Khalid and Shawn Mendes.

The AMAs also paid tribute to the late Aretha Franklin with an all-star performance honoring her gospel roots. Some other performers throughout the night included Twenty One Pilots, Shawn Mendes & Zedd, Cardi B, Post Malone & Ty Dolla $ign and Jennifer Lopez.
