It was Taylor Swift‘s night at the American Music Awards on Sunday, as the Pop superstar took home six AMAs, making her the most decorated artist in the award show’s history with 29 (surpassing Michael Jackson‘s record). Swift won Artist of the Year, along with Favorite Music Video (“You Need to Calm Down”), Favorite Female Artist – Pop/Rock, Favorite Album – Pop/Rock (Lover) and Favorite Artist – Adult Contemporary.
Swift was also honored as Artist of the Decade, with an introduction from Carole King. Additionally, Swift performed a medley of her many hits, despite the confusion and controversy leading up to the show about the rights to her back catalog. Halsey and Camila Cabello joined the performance for “Shake It Off.”
Billie Eilish won Best New Artist and Favorite Artist – Alternative Rock, and also made her awards show debut with a firey performance of “all the good girls go to hell.”
BTS won three AMAs, for Tour of the Year, Favorite Social Artist, Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock. Khalid earned three AMAs as well, for Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock, Favorite Album – Soul/R&B (Free Spirit) and Favorite Song – Soul/R&B (“Talk”).
Of course, the AMAs focused more on its star-studded performances than handing out the awards. Green Day played a medley of their current single “Father of All…” and their early classic hit “Basket Case.” Post Malone teamed with Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott as part of his performance of his songs “Circles” and “Take What You Want.” Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, Lizzo, the Jonas Brothers, Shania Twain, Toni Braxton and Kesha were among the other artists who played the hits throughout the night.
