The 2022 MTV VMAs were handed out Sunday night, with Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish taking home the top awards. Swift wrapped up the whole night with the main award of the evening: Video of the Year for her 10-minute “All Too Well: The Short Film.” This is her third Video of the Year VMA overall, following 2015’s for “Bad Blood” and in 2019 for “You Need to Calm Down.” After accepting the award, Swift told the audience that she had a new record arriving on October 21, with the title revealed as Midnights shortly after on social media.
“All Too Well” won multiple other VMAs throughout the night, for Best Longform Video (naturally) and Best Direction (Swift herself directed the video). The clip stars Sadie Sink of Stranger Things fame and Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf).
Bad Bunny was named Artist of the Year while Billie Eilish won Song of the Year for “Happier Than Ever.” Dove Cameron was named Best New Artist while BTS won as Group of the Year. Jack Harlow‘s “First Class” was declared Song of the Summer.
As previously reported, Red Hot Chili Peppers were honored with the Global Icon Award. They also won the Best Rock VMA for “Black Summer.” Nicki Minaj had a busy night, co-hosting the show, being presented with the Video Vanguard Award and performing a medley of her hits.
Other performers throughout the evening included Lizzo, Eminem & Snoop Dogg, Blackpink, Panic! at the Disco, Bad Bunny, and Jack Harlow & Fergie, among others.
