SummitMedia today named Dave Symonds as Director of Programming and Operations for the company’s Richmond cluster.
Symonds brings a solid track record of progressive leadership in multi-station, multiformat programming, management, and brand development, including start-ups and well-established stations and shows. He has been consistently successful in differentiating brands, communicating format values, and achieving ratings successes.
“Summit Richmond is excited to welcome Dave back to the Richmond market,” said Bob Willoughby, Market President. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity of collaborating with him as a member of our team.”
Symonds’ radio career dates back almost 40 years. Most recently, he spent 11 years as SVP/Programming for iHeartRadio. During that time, he oversaw the Richmond, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach, along with stations in Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut.
“After meeting with the Summit Richmond team, I was quickly swept up by their strength and creativity, as well as the opportunities and potential of these stations,” Symonds added. “I already respected Market Manager Bob Willoughby when we were competed a few years back. Now, I’m excited to partner with him. Plus, it’s Richmond. I’m thrilled!”
Symonds assumes his new leadership role today. He oversees Summit Richmond stations that include K 95 (WKHK), 103.7 Your Variety (WURV), Classic Rock 96.5 (WKLR), Awesome 100.9 (WJSR) and ESPN Richmond (WURV HD2).
