Hello and welcome to another edition of the SubModern Report for this April 20, 2016. You may refer to the day however you like, but I’m far too square for any celebration of reefer madness. I’m too busy crunching numbers here and getting our charts in order, so let’s get right into that.
It didn’t take long for M83’s new album Junk to make the leap from #2 to #1 on our album chart. That bumps last week’s #1, The Last Shadow Puppets’ Everything You’ve Come To Expect, down to #2. A number of ties follow with Frightened Rabbit’s Painting Of A Panic Attack and Kristin Kontrol’s yet to be released X-Communicate at #3. Last week’s Buzz Band Bleached ties with Parquet Courts at #5 with their albums Welcome The Worms and Human Performance, respectively. Then at #7 it’s Twin Peaks’ Down In Heaven tied with Yeasayer’s Amen & Goodbye. That leaves Fear of Men with Fall Forever at #9 and Brass Bed with In The Yellow Leaf at #10.
The ties are much bigger on the singles chart this week. In fact I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a four way tie for #1! Sharing the honors are Brit rockers Enter Shikari with “Redshift,” South African band Kongos with their new single “Take It From Me,” the aforementioned former Dum Dum Girl Kristin Kontrol with “Show Me,” and the long unheard from Australian band that helped break Joseph Gordon Levitt’s heart way back in 2009, The Temper Trap with “Fall Forever.” Speaking of breaking up, the also aforementioned Bleached breaks up the top ten by standing alone at #5 with “Wednesday Night Melody.” Then it’s a six way tie for #6 between The Avett Brothers, Broods, The Kills, M83, Tokyo Police Club, and Twin Peaks. Whew…
Well, tallying up all those ties has left me out of time, so just a few parting tidbits. As we added two new shows to our panel this week from KRXP / Colorado Springs and WSFS / Miami, the radio gods giveth and sadly they also taketh away as we got word that longtime Detour host Chris Allman is no longer at WTFX / Louisville and that this Sunday will be Ross Mahoney’s final edition of Modern Rock Underground on WRMR / Wilmington, NC. Now, find out about even more ties in the top 25 of each chart at FMQB.com/SubModern and check out a slew of potential new tunes for next week’s charts below. Have a great week.
