Halfway through August already?! How is that possible? As we savor these last drops of summer though, we can really start to anticipate a lot of the new music coming our way in the fall and we’re starting to see a lot of it show up on the charts already. Both of our new #1’s this week are part of the fall flourish of albums on the way. Nashville’s Bully just announced their 2nd record Losing will be out in October and from that, "Feel The Same" takes the top spot on this week’s singles chart. On the album chart it’s a much more seasoned veteran at #1 – Liam Gallagher of Oasis with his solo debut record As You Were coming in October as well. A few strong singles boost the younger Gallagher brother to #1 months ahead of the release date, most notably the newest single "For What It’s Worth," which debuts at #3. Enter Shikari ticks up a bit to #2 with "Live Outside," the first single from the Brit-rockers upcoming fifth album, while the #1 single of the past two weeks, Mister Heavenly‘s "Beat Down" slips to #34, tying with Kasabian‘s latest, "Bless This House." Wolf Parade‘s "Valley Boy" is at #6, followed by Pom Poms at #7 with "Live Before I Die," and Alice Merton at #8 with "No Roots." Belle and Sebastian and The Bronx then tie at #9 to close out the top ten singles with "We Were Beautiful" and "Two Birds," respectively. On the album chart, two week topper A Black Mile To The Surface from Manchester Orchestra is now #2, followed by Canadian rockers Metz with their third album Strange Peace, due out next month. Another forthcoming record, Cut Copy‘s "Haiku For Zero" ties at #4 with one that just came out, The Districts‘ third record, Popular Manipulations. Speaking of The Districts, I had the pleasure of attending their album release show last week and you can see photographic evidence here. Joywave‘s Content is tied with the aforementioned Pom Poms’ Turn You Out for #6, and then Dan Croll‘s Emerging Adulthood stand alone at #8. The Cribs are back at #9 with a new album that I don’t think I cant publish the name of, and the top ten albums close out with another tie between Benjamin Gibbard and Nine Inch Nails. You can see all that in easy to read chart format below and a more complete list of the top albums and singles at FMQB.com/SubModern. I’ll be back next week with more chartiness. Keep on fightin’ the good fight my friends. ~ Josh Landow |
