Sony Group Corp reported its third quarter fiscal results today, including a historic revenue report for its Sony Music Group division. Sony Music reported $1.42 billion in revenue within its recorded music division, combining physical, streaming and additional revenue. Music Business Worldwide notes that streaming alone made up $1.03 billion of this revenue, making history as the first time Sony’s quarterly music revenue surpassed the $1 billion mark from streaming. Sony Music’s Q3 revenue for recorded music was up 19 percent compared to the third quarter of 2020.
Excluding Japanese releases, the top artists for Sony Music during Q3 were Doja Cat, The Kid LAROI, Lil Nas X, Harry Styles and Polo G.
