David Cassidy

David Cassidy, Pop star and actor, has passed away at the age of 67. Cassidy had been suffering from dementia and last week was admitted into a Florida hospital with liver and kidney failure. A representative for Cassidy said in a statement, “On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”

Cassidy was the son of Broadway actors and became one himself before moving to Hollywood. After a series of TV guest roles, he was cast of Keith Partridge, the lead singer and guitarist on The Partridge Family, a show about a traveling family band. The show lasted four years and made Cassidy a teen heartthrob. The Partridge Family crossed over from being a fictional TV band to scoring actual hits such as “Come On Get Happy” and “I Think I Love You,” which went to #1.

After the end of the series, Cassidy continued to act and make music over the years, recording a number of albums and touring as a performer for decades. However, his career was also marked by battles with drugs and alcohol and he made headlines for three different DUI charges in the past decade.
