Picazzo Stevens

Picazzo Stevens has been in and around the radio game for some time now. He’s had his share of ups and downs but is now enjoying life back in a place that sure feels like home: Ventura, California. His radio career started at KGGI in Riverside, as mix DJ/part time air talent, then midday host. Then it was onto afternoon drive at KBOS/Fresno. He eventually satisfied his programming itch at KDON/Monterey-Salinas where he served as Music Director. From there it was onto Bakersfield as APD/MD at KISV. He then returned to Riverside to program at KWIE before heading back to program KISV. Then one day Picazzo left his comfort zone in Cali to head south and became APD at KDHT/Austin. Nowadays Picazzo is back home serving as Program Director for Cumulus Rhythmic Top 40 KVYB (103.3 The Vibe), The Beat of the Central Coast…and life is good!

eQB presents excerpts from the June FMQB magazine Rhythm Q&A: KVYB (103.3 The Vibe)/Ventura PD Picazzo Stevens
”I see less ownership of the Rhythmic format as Rhythmic and Top 40 share so many of the same artists and songs. They’re becoming indistinguishable.”

“There are new songs that get me excited from time to time but I’d be hard pressed at the moment to actually name a new artist that I believe will be a force.”

”Positions are being eliminated constantly. Responsibilities are being shared by fewer and fewer people. Shifts being “swept” or voice tracked rather than having a live person. I’m looking forward to radio getting back to live and local.”

“I’m a big fan of Twitter right now. It doesn’t cost the company or the listener anything (*standard text messaging rates apply). The listener can connect with the jocks they want on a personal level and still get all the station info!”

”Over the years, radio has always been a part of whatever the device was from portable cassette player/radio, CD/player/radio and for the first time we’re faced with a portable music device that doesn’t include radio and that definitely hurts us.”

“It’s a generation of people turning to the Internet to discover new artists, hear new music and then immediately downloading it to their computer/MP3 player. Radio is programmed for the masses while iPods are obviously personal.”

“As long as radio can be accessible via the device at the time (iPhone/iPod) and provides exciting, entertaining and local content, radio should always be the media of choice.”

“I want to be an inspiration. My album is fun, but I also have moments when I’m talking about things that aren’t so fun. Love isn’t always fun. There are moments of hurt but I want to be an inspiration and know that I’ve touched people in some way.”
