In a new interview with Mashable, Katy Perry describes her current single “Rise,” recorded for the Summer Olympics. as a “bridge” to her next record. Perry says, “I would never necessarily go with this type of song as the first single in the middle of summer. It wasn’t obvious as something I would go with for the next record, but it seemed to match the spirit of the athletes. I felt like that really matched. I’ve been taking my time making this record and I just wanted to have a bridge of something whether I was thinking about doing something for a film or something like this and this seemed so obvious and such a perfect fit.” She adds that “It’s too soon to define” anything she is working on for her new album.

Dawes will release their new record, We’re All Gonna Die, on September 16. The album features contributions from Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, Jim James of My Morning Jacket and Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe of Lucius. Lead single “When The Tequila Runs Out” arrived at radio on Tuesday. Dawes singer/guitarist Taylor Goldsmith says, “These songs were all written in a very short period of time, very close together. In that sense I feel like there was a consistency in mood and outlook our other records don’t have. Pretty much every song on this record explores a difficult situation and tries to find a way to find the good in it, or at least remind yourself that it’s not always that big of a deal. After all, as scary as it is, we are all gonna die.”
