Chance the Rapper
Chance the Rapper released a set of four new songs overnight, one of which contained a lyrical surprise. The artist has purchased his hometown’s Chicagoist news website, which was shut down last fall when its owner took it offline after its staff voted to join the Writers Guild of America union. The rights to Chicagoist and its sister sites were later picked up by public radio stations. Chance acquired Chicagoist from WNYC. In the track “I Might Need Security,” Chance raps, “I bought the Chicagoist just to run you racist bitches outta business.”
In a statement today, Chance said, “I’m extremely excited to be continuing the work of the Chicagoist, an integral local platform for Chicago news, events and entertainment … I look forward to relaunching it and bringing the people of Chicago an independent media outlet focused on amplifying diverse voices and content.”
Muse released a new track today titled “Something Human,” as well as its video, and confirmed the band will have a new record out this November. Last year, the rock trio put out the song “Dig Down” and had a hit earlier this year with “Thought Contagion.” Both songs are expected to appear on the as-yet-untitled album, their first since 2015.
A new David Bowie box set will be out October 12, collecting much of the late superstar’s output from the 1980s. Loving the Alien (1983-1988) will include 11 CDs (15 LPs in the vinyl edition) and includes 1983’s Let’s Dance, 1984’s Tonight and 1987’s Never Let Me Down, plus the live albums Serious Moonlight and Glass Spider and a new remix compilation titled Dance. There is also a 2018 reworking of Never Let Me Down with new production and instrumentation overseen by Bowie producer/engineer Mario McNulty.
