Geoff Emerick, who engineered much of The Beatles‘ most beloved recordings, has passed away at the age of 72. Emerick was only a teenager when he started as an assistant at Abbey Road and worked at the studio on many of their early records and over time, became their chief engineer for Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, “The White Album” and Abbey Road. Emerick was considered second only to producer George Martin when it came to helping shape the Beatles’ recordings. A multiple-time Grammy winner, Emerick also worked with Paul McCartney numerous times on his post-Beatles records, as well as Elvis Costello and a number of other artists. FMQB sends its condolences to Emerick’s family and friends.
