On the optimistic side, what are some qualities of your job that you enjoy the most?
Jeremy Rice, WBLI: Creating and maintaining super brands. Growing talent and giving them the confidence to be great. Applying art and science to give our product both heart and soul. Mike O’Donnell, WKRZ: I love being able to come in every week and find a new, awesome sound that I can share with my audience. That’s why I still get up in the morning for this. Jagger, KCHZ: I love being able to shape the sound of a radio station with my air-talent, imaging, music, and passion. Jonathan Shuford, WRVW: I still believe and love the fact that radio still has the opportunity to effect Pop culture in a way that very few other media companies can. Valentine, WBHT: Everything about the music: picking the hits, scheduling the music, play the hits! I also love the on-air aspect. Josh Wolff, WAEB: I love doing charitable events that impact the market and community on such positive ways, love doing big contests that excite our listeners, and love working with the airstaff to help them improve their craft. Randi West, WRMF: I enjoy the collaboration and creativity that goes into our business. Seeing an idea come to life on the radio or online is pretty awesome. Erik Bradley, B96: Working with new (and established) artists, networking, camaraderie, teamwork, creating life-long friendships, and hopefully making a positive difference in our communities. |
Rick Vaughn, KENZ: The fact that it’s not a job. I haven’t actually worked a day in thirty years. I grew up on a farm, I know what an actual job is. Drew Heyman, WHYI: Connecting with listeners, the Miami community, and introducing Miami to DOPE music. Bob Patrick, WXLK: I still enjoy making people happy. Whether it’s with a $25 gift card or a simple request. I just love making people’s day. I also still love the music meetings, imaging and production aspects of the job. Brian Mack, WXXL: Making someone’s day never gets old. Kobe, WZNE: Knowing what’s coming down the pike regarding new music and music trends. Coaching talent, and flexing my creative muscle to make the station sound bigger than life. Toby Knapp, WASH: These days, it’s the non-title, off-air conversations I get to have about programming, talent, and where we’re going and how to prepare our talent to get there which I’ve been really having fun being part of. We’re moving a break-neck speed into the future, with new and emerging tech which will get us there, and resources which empower our talent do be even better than we were two years ago… and helping to influence this stuff is exciting! Jeff Hurley, iHeartMedia: I love the flexibility of my position. If I need to pick up my kids at school, I’m able to move things around and make it happen. At the end of the day, we’re judged by our results. Lee Abrams mediavisions: Staying in harmony with our ever-evolving culture and translating that into new media directions. |
Bartel, WKTU: Working with the staff and labels and artists. Being on the air and I have a real passion for community service as I host our public affairs show KTUCares. Buster Satterfield, WIOQ: Talking and connecting with my listeners. Guy Zapoleon, Zapoleon Consulting: Problem Solving and working with great, great people in the radio and music industry. Listening to music and watching the hit music process. As they said in the Sci Fi series Babylon 5 (personalities are) radio’s last best hope. Jon Zellner, iHeartMedia: The people! I have the privilege of working with the most amazing group of talent, programmers, producers, sellers and innovators in our business. Chris Michaels, FM100: Creating fun and exciting promotions, and putting on great events pre-covid are just a few. I love when we can connect with listeners and give them a memory they’ll have forever. Jana Sutter, WXXL: My favorite part is the connection between the listener, the local community, and a shared love of music and pop culture. It’s a common ground we all share. Mike McVay, McVay Media: Meeting people who are excited about the medium and enjoy talking music and marketing. Joey Brooks, WKSS: Working with air-talent, creating compelling promotions for our listeners, and community involvement in all that we do. |
