Which Pop artists would make successful on-air jocks, and what qualities do they possess support your thoughts?
Raphael Opida, WIOQ: MAX (“Lights Down Low”, “Still New York”) would definitely be a great on-air talent! He has charisma and personality; he doesn’t let the fame get in the way of interacting with fans (IMPORTANT). All around great guy to represent a radio station. 5 Seconds of Summer would also make a great Morning Show, I think the guys are hilarious together (have you seen their IG Stories?!).
Kobi, WNRW / WLGX: Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Diddy. Mike McCoy, WNCI: Ed Sheeran because of his cool accent and his willingness to talk about anything, Anne-Marie, she was a fun interview and she’s very engaging, and Max. Jonathan Shuford, WRVW: The obvious answer is any of the Popstars with acting experience like Selena, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Hailee Steinfeld, Zendaya, etc. They’re all well-spoken, compelling, and understand the performance art. My dark horse though is Bebe Rexha, I think she would be awesome on the air, just because she gives zero f**ks and would be fun to listen to. Paul “Cubby” Bryant, WKTU : Hands down, Kelly Clarkson for reasons we all already know. Kevin Kash: WIYY / WWEG: Lady Gaga would rock a radio show. Let her pick some tunes and tell stories. Justin Timberlake too. Same format. They sing, they dance, they act…I’d like a signing bonus. Mike Miller, WZFT: Kelly Clarkson, Justin Timberlake and Cardi B. |
Rick Vaughn, Power 94.9: I thought the 5SOS guys were pretty hilarious and engaging when they were in our performance lounge a few months ago. I think they could do a pretty good show.
Java Joel, WAKS: It’s the Morning Mumble with Migos, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil’ Yachty, Lil’ Pump, ‘Lil Xan and Future!
Alex Tear, Y100: Justin Timberlake! Mike McVay, Cumulus Media: Based on having just seen Matt Nathanson emcee the NAB/RAB 2018 Marconi Awards, I’d vote for him to be an air-talent. He was spectacular. Chris K, The End: Katy Perry, based on the couple of times I’ve interview her, she has a personality that was through the roof, and she’s so quirky and off the wall, she’d probably be a pretty entertaining jock. Chuck Damico, WMMR / WBEN: David Lee Roth. Heather Deluca, WSJO: Blake Shelton would be really fun, based on what I’ve seen on The Voice. He’s charming but also opinionated. Matt Talluto, WBYR: Pop Artists? None. Rock artists? Dave Grohl. Entertaining and not afraid to be vulnerable. Fish Boy, WKRZ: Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran would make a good team. They’re both eclectic, unique and witty, and I’d love to hear them talk about the hot topics of the day. |
Matt Johnson, KSLZ: Logic because he speaks truth to the masses no matter what, and Cardi B because she’s authentic to her personality.
Brian Mack, WXXL: Adam Levine and Justin Timberlake, both entertaining, funny, with good ideas, creativity, and improv skills. Jon Zellner, iHeartMedia: Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, Dave Grohl, all are mass appeal, naturally entertaining and real. Kobe, WWHT: Justin Timberlake in mornings, he’d be the ringleader. Ariana in middays. The Chainsmokers in nights because they’re outspoken and crazy, and Post Malone in late nights which makes total sense to me! Sara Cucci, WBBO: Cardi B would kill it on a morning show. Chris Michaels, FM100: Adam Levine, who we all know has a great personality. Ariana Grande would be great, and Justin Timberlake. Derrick “DC” Cole, WAEB: I’d hire Justin Timberlake to do overnights. He’s got personality, you can’t teach personality. Jonathan Reed, WNOK: Katy Tiz, Rita Ora and Charli XCX. |
