What is something from back home that you just can’t find anywhere else?
Rich Davis, KDWB: Hoffman’s Milk Shakes from Westminster Maryland! The best on the planet!
Bartel. WKTU: The best cheesesteaks and the best sports fans in Philly. Brian Mack. iHeartMedia: Quality? Pizza, black and white cookies, bagels. Not quite the same as I remember it at home. Rick Vaughn, KENZ: Real German sausage from the Uniontown Sausage Feed in Uniontown, Washington. It’s a huge deal. I always have some shipped to us. Jeff Hurley iHeartMedia: Pudgie’s Pizza. Not sure what makes it so different, but it’s my favorite treat when I’m back in Elmira. Valentine, WBHT: Mom’s home cooking, and mom cleaning up the mess after dinner. Mike O’Donnell, WKRZ: Good New England seafood. It’s the best! Jana Sutter, WXXL: Alabama barbeque. It’s sweet and spicy, and the way it’s dished up with sloppy coleslaw and beans and Texas toast…it’s just home. I find good barbeque, but I don’t find that. Matt Johnson, WPLW: Has to be Dinosaur Bar-B-Que from Syracuse. No one makes it like Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in the ‘Cuse! Their sauce is killer! Java Joel, WHBC: Hailing from the “North Country” of Northern NY State, it’s Glazier Hot Dogs, River Rat Cheese Curds, Jrecks Subs and Sergi’s Pizza. |
Jagger, KCHZ: Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream from my hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. Awesome ice cream, haven’t found anything close yet. Frankie V, KSSX / KHTS: Really REALLY REAAALLLLLLY good Chinese food!! Something about the Chinese food places outside of my hometown of Framingham MA just hasn’t been replicated in my radio travels!! Probably good for my waistline though. Drew Heyman, WHYI: Good Cuban food, especially sandwiches. Toby Knapp, WASH: H-E-B. Whataburger. Real Tamales. Hell, real Mexican Food. Port Aransas. The Alamo. I could go on and on… Texas. Jon Zellner, iHeartMedia: “Back home” could refer to several different cities for me so back home from Kansas City would be really good barbeque and tailgating at Arrowhead Stadium. Back home” from Washington DC would be fireworks on the mall, The Smithsonian and cherry blossoms in the spring. Jammer, WEZB: Pretzels/pizza pretzels. Guy Zapoleon, Zapoleon Consulting: Back home for me is LA. Things I can’t get anywhere else are: my best friend Bart Holiday and his family, (Lake Balboa), Birmingham high school, UCLA, K-Earth building on Venice/Fairfax with Bob Hamilton, the Huntington Sheraton in Pasadena where I worked with the late great Art Laboe and Johnny Hayes, Pinks Hot Dogs and Hamburgers, and great Mexican food everywhere in LA. |
Erik Bradley, B96: Bojangles! I’ve heard some chatter that they might be expanding in other parts of the country but I only see ’em in the southeast… delicious fast food chicken + biscuits spot… reminds me of North Carolina!. Dom Theodore, Radio Animal Media Strategies: Back home is Detroit (not far me now). And as much as people try to copy Detroit style pizza, nothing beats the real thing. Adam Rivers, WKCI: Chicopee Blue Seal Kielbasa from my hometown of Chicopee, MA.
Fish, WKRZ: Pizza is garbage everywhere else but here. Randi West, WRMF: A horseshoe or ponyshoe. It’s a dish from central Illinois and there is nothing like it. Jeremy Rice, WXXL: Real pizza! Chris Michaels, FM100: Being the foodie that I am, whenever I go back home to Jacksonville, I have to get two things: a burger from The Loop, and Mexican from La Nopalera. Both are amazing! Big Rob, KKPL/KMAX: Fortunately, I’ve never had to leave my home state, but Colorado has some bomb Mexican food. Outside of some spots in Cali, it’s hard to find good Mexican food, especially out East it seems. I’ve struck out on the east coast with finding solid Mexican restaurants. |
