In what areas of your job do you derive the most pride from?
Alex Tear, Y100/iHeartMedia Miami: Helping others, teaching, problem solving, forward thinking, creating and leading.
Jordan, KSLZ: Connecting with our audience each weekday, be it on air, or through social media. Engagement and connectivity are so important! Heather Deluca, WSJO: Community events. Giving back to listeners and being there for them when they need us. DJ Riddler, KROI: The areas I derive the most pride from is production. Whether it’s a Promo for On-Air, to a special remix like the one I did for the World Series, [I did an Imagine Dragons – Thunder (Astros World Series Remix)], to creating sweepers. I take pride in what I produce to go over the air. Mike McVay, Cumulus Media: Working with talent. Great Talent are the intangible that overcomes almost all obstacles. If it doesn’t happen when they turn on the mic, it’s never going to happen. Jonathan Shuford, WRVW: Creativity! The ability to create something and see it executed in the real world is a really joyous experience. Chris K, KUDL: One is when a song that I love and believed in for a long time finally becomes a big hit, and it’s great to see other people excited about the song that I’ve been excited about so long. Also, being able to do positive things in the community and encourage young people to contribute to our community in positive ways. Rod Phillips, iHeartMedia: Plain and simple…growing careers by finding opportunities for programmers and talent to take advantage of the gig they have now. Whether that is grow ratings short term or take on more stations or move to improve. Derrick “DC” Cole, WAEB: I get the most pride when I’m on the mic in the studio, one could say I enjoy electrifying…the millions! Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be very proud of my energy. Dom Theodore, Radio Animal Media Strategies: When I see a PD or talent that I’ve coached go on to do great things. It’s the most rewarding part of what I do! Chuck Damico, WMMR/WBEN: Improving listeners’ days.
Rozy Myzal, hardDrive: Ratings for stations and chart busting for bands. |
JB King, KLUC: Working with young on-air talent.
Toby Knapp, WIHT: I get to go to work every day as a member of radio’s version of The Avengers. From top to bottom, in any format, it’s the BEST team ever. Believe it! Java Joel, WAKS: I love programming music. Concocting a perfectly balanced music log. Then, being able to hear the execution on the air. Love it. Matt “MJ” Johnson, KUDD: Definitely the good we do in the community. We’re always trying to identify situations on a micro level where we can make a big difference. For instance, this week we’re doing a food-drive for the Utah Food Bank, which definitely has an immediate effect on the people in the community. We’re staffed and built for that, better than anyone else, and we do a great job. Jammer, WEZB: Getting people excited about our product. That reaction makes it all worth it! Mike “OD” O’Donnell, WKRZ: It’s definitely playing the right records for our market and playing the records that prove to be big hits. That’s what it’s all about in my mind. It’s just good programming. I can sit here and work my playlist for hours and time just flies by. I know the right record for this market. Brian Mack, WXXL: Mentoring young aspiring programmers and talent in many different facets whether it’s digital, social, on-air. Also, still be able to be the conduit and seeing people visualize it. People see you as the middleman between their favorite music and the stars. You can really see this when we do lounge performances. Rick Vaughn, KENZ: Talent coaching. Gina Gray, WERO: Imaging, and a perfect 15-minute Selector snapshot of the station. Chris Michaels, FM100: New up and coming talent. I enjoy working with talent and coaching newer talent who want to learn and grow. Terri Ray, WKLT/WKLZ: Creating station imaging – we put together some pretty awesome stuff. |
Jon Zellner. iHeartMedia: Getting to work with a wide variety of amazingly talented people every day; hearing our brands wherever I go; and showing people how the iHeartRadio app works and watching their face light up.
R Dub! Z90: The strategy and execution of some of our larger-than-life marketing and promotions, like #Epic48Hours. Thanks to a team of forward thinkers and owners who “get it,” Z90 and Magic 92.5 have been able to really “wow” our clients and listeners in an age where mediocrity seems to be the norm. Jeremy Rice, WBLI:Developing talent and watching co-workers embrace, love, and take pride in our super-brands, doing great work in our communities, and of course winning. Bartel, WKTU: Public Affairs at the station has been a passion of mine. Helping people and charities with KTU Cares. And just being live on the air communicating the audience in a major market like New York City. On the APD/MD side, I love our station events and all the behind the scenes that go into developing something from nothing. Fish Boy, WKRZ: Picking the hits for KRZ! I love doing the music! Rob Roberts, WRQX: When we give away a prize or do an event and someone says “This has been the best day of my life.” Everything on my station is focused towards that goal. Kobe, WWHT: When the station can make an impact in someone’s life whether it’s a listener or a new artist, or anyone for that matter that we can touch in a positive way. Mase, WWCD: Having one! Matt Talluto, WBYR: Watching the reactions on listeners’ faces when they win something big at one of our on-site promotions. But mostly giving back to our veterans at our Heroes Holiday charity promotion. To have members of our military, who stared evil in the face on the battlefield somewhere, get teared up and show appreciation for the little we’re trying to give back as if WE’RE the heroes…that tugs at the heartstrings in a good way! Makes us proud of what we do and who we do it for. |
