Currently evergreen songs (recurrents & Gold) can serve as “comfort food” with listeners. What are a few of your favorite evergreen tracks that need to be in the mix right now?
Java Joel, WAKS: “Work From Home” by Fifth Harmony was fun for the 1st week or two. Songs like “Wake Me Up” and even “God’s Plan” take on a new resonance now. Thought about putting Logic f/Alessia Cara & Khalid (“1-800-273-2355”) back in, but I think we all need some respite from the doom and gloom. Maybe “My House” by FloRida? Frankie V, KSSX/KHTS: Nelly & Kelly Rowland – Dilemma! It was one of the first songs I ever talked up back in my Fun 107 days. Also, Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby… because I somehow know ever word to that song & feel the need to rap it whenever I hear it! Adam Rivers, WKCI: *NSYNC “Tearin’ Up My Heart,” Spice Girls “Wannabe,” Backstreet Boys “I Want It That Way,” Aqua “Barbie Girl” and many more classic pop songs that just sound great on the air. Rick Vaughn KENZ: “Better Now,” I think if you’re going to reach for one, this is getting underplayed right now. “bad guy” qualifies. You can play “Youngblood” by 5 SOS all you want. I’ve already played “Circles” 3700 times and it’s still going strong. Jon Zellner, iHeartMedia: Definitely would depend on the station and the market, but I absolutely would lean on more familiar songs during this time. Kobe, @kobeontheradio: I think it depends on your market. But I agree, there is so much uncertainty in the world right now, people will gravitate to things that they are familiar with, it brings a sense of comfort. |
R Dub! Z90: Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars sound great on Z90! For Magic 92.5, Boyz II Men, Earth, Wind & Fire and Mariah Carey got us feelin’ good! Drew Heyman, Y100: We’ve been going through some golds and classics to really freshen up things during this time. Songs like Beyonce “Crazy In Love,” Jay Z “Numb/Encore” and even some of the rock stuff like Fall Out Boy. Orlando, WLLD: “Contagious,” “Wipe Me Down” and “Sittin’ Up In My Room!” JB King, KLUC: Jonas Bros “Sucker,” Ed Sheeran “Shape of You” and anything Post Malone. Jammer, B97: We’ve been doing ‘QuaranTunes’ with cool songs from Destiny’s Child, DMX, Lady Gaga, Tone Loc, MC Hammer, Sir Mix-A-Lot. Its really given a great vibe to radio station and we’re see results. Jagger, WKSS: “We Found Love” Rihanna (love the energy of that song), and “Titanium” by David Guetta/Sia which I think really speaks to people right now. They both sound great. Matt Johnson, KSLZ: As a T40 programmer, I have to stay focused on the “now.” |
Rich Davis, KQWB: KYGO / Selena Gomez “It Ain’t Me,” I still love B.O.B. “Airplanes” when that comes on, I like both “Love The Way You Lie” and “The Monster” by Eminem. I like to still fire up Macklemore “Can’t Hold Us,” and Tove Lo “Habits” is still one of my faves. Mike “OD” O’Donnell, WKRZ: Typically, Gold songs are part of the fabric and essence of KRZ’s overall mix on an ongoing basis. We recognize the value to our audience. Here are a few: Britney Spears “Toxic,” Flo rida “Low,” Bruno Mars “Locked Out of Heaven,” Usher/Ludacris/Lil Jon “Yeah!,” twenty one pilots “Stressed Out.” Jordan, KSLZ: Jonas Brothers “Only Human.” Valentine, WBHT: We’re doing Rewind Weekends featuring some of the best throwbacks all weekend long, mixed with the hits. We’re serving Northeastern PA comfort food appetizers, with the Post Malone’s and Dua Lipa’s as the main course…Taste like chicken. Josh Wolff, WAEB: I think listeners right now are looking for “feel good” songs, so anything with tempo that brings them back to happier times works for us. |
