Outside of radio, if you could create a business model to own and operate just for the pure joy of it, what would it be?
Mike O’Donnell, WKRZ: OD’s Lawn Service, because when I retire all I want to do is sit on a rider and mow lawns! Jana Sutter, WXXL: A professional travel blogger and travel the world!
Jonathan Shuford, WRVW: A baseball card shop, especially with sports cards coming back again. That would be fun! Jeff Hurley, iHeartMedia: A Donut Shop. Just surrounding myself with freshly brewed coffee and delicious donuts all day. I’m sure that’s great for my overall health.
Josh Wolff, WAEB: Probably a coffee shop, problem is I would drink all the profits. Buzz Knight, Buzz Knight Media: It would have to be a venture that supports the health and wellbeing of dogs. Can’t imagine life with a pooch! | Rick Vaughn, KENZ: Just for pure joy, I’d probably be a wilderness guide.
Matt Johnson, WPLW: If I had a million-dollar idea, I wouldn’t be in radio and I wouldn’t be sharing it with you.
Guy Zapoleon, Zapoleon Consulting: If I wasn’t doing radio, I’d be writing books about music cycles/music history which is what I’m doing now. Or maybe my wife and I would build a fresh-made to market business around some of the amazing things she makes like black bean salad with corn, avocado, and lime vinaigrette or sub salad-provolone tomatoes, onions, peppers vinaigrette to go with cold cuts on a hoagie. |
Kobe, WZNE: I would love to see how far I could go as a full-time DJ in the hopes of touring regionally.
Adam Rivers, WKCI: Run a sports practice facility. Randi West, WRMF: I would tell you but I’d have to kill you, and I don’t want anyone stealing my idea for my Plan B. (lol!) Lee Abrams MediaVision: Outside of media, it would be a multi-function aviation company.

John Reynolds, WNKS: I’ve done radio since I was 9 years old, so I’ve actually never thought of doing anything else. However, given my passion for piloting my own aircraft, it would have to be something in the aviation field.
Joey Brooks, WKSS: Could be either of two…or maybe both! I’d like to start a hockey league that I’m good enough to actually play in. Also, a sports martial arts program.
Jeremy Rice, WBLI: Be a peaceful Political Activist and give back to the community.
Toby Knapp, WASH: I’d travel, creating a travel blog / magazine / YouTube channel and whatnot with daily updates from wherever I was in the world doing whatever I was doing at the time living life… because we’re working to live, right? Not living to work… right? Either that or I’d start a Philly-Style Cheesesteak / Hoagie joint in Corpus Christi / Port Aransas, Texas… Like if Primo Hoagies had a baby with Pat’s or Genos… or Jim’s.
Rich Davis, KDWB: There are two choices for me. We have some horses and my daughter’s doing lessons for some clients so I would probably get a bigger barn and do some kind of horseback / boarding / riding business. I’ve also always loved real estate and had a license when I was in Tennessee so anything real estate related. I love that stuff too.
Jon Zellner, iHeartMedia: JZ’s Back In The Day Café, serving great diner food where you pick the decade (70s, 80s or 90s) you want to dine in. In each room, you’re transformed back into that decade through audio (music), video (movies, commercials, news), fashion (servers are dressed in appropriate gear for each decade), and food (The Watergate Burger in the 70s Room, the Iran-Contra Burger in the 80s Room and the Grunge Burger in the 90s Room). Can you tell I’ve given this some thought?
