As the decade approaches its close, professionally what have been your most memorable moments during this past decade?
Joey Brooks, iHeartMedia: This was a decade of firsts for me. It started with my first full-time major market job at Q102 in Philly. From there, my first time working outside of the U.S. at CHUM FM in Toronto. First PD job at WMIA Miami and now first SVPP role for iHeartMedia Connecticut. It was a great decade of learning and working with incredible stations and people! Mike “OD” O’Donnell, WKRZ: Having the honor to lead one of the best teams at 98.5 KRZ for an entire decade at #1!
Dom Theodore, Radio Animal Media Strategies: There are too many to count, but the whole experience of going out on my own and starting my own companies, as well as venturing into station ownership, has been rewarding and very memorable.
Josh Wolff, WAEB: Being mentored by some of the best in the industry and having the opportunity to share and apply that knowledge to Syracuse University students. Twisted Todd, WTPT: Playing bass onstage with Skillet back at the Planet’s 2014 birthday bash still tops the list!

Java Joel, WAKS: Becoming PD at Kiss FM / Cleveland was a very memorable moment for sure, but nothing comes close to the birth of my son, Charley – January 11th, 2013- Greatest day of my life!
Adam Rivers, WKCI: Getting to do PM Drive and program a station, KC101, that I listened to growing up. Jonathan Reed, WNOK: Considering the personal changes in my life over the past 6 months, professionally I feel blessed and thankful for all that has happened in the past decade. I love the fact that I get to continue to work in media and entertainment on a daily basis. Meet artists, put together promotions, listen to music, meet people, currently working for a great heritage brand while living in Columbia that is growing and becoming active. I hope that I can continue to grow both professionally and personally in the next decade but also play an important role to do what’s good for the community.
Chris Michaels, FM100: Moving to Memphis and working for Entercom! This has been an amazing decade for my career, as I joined in 2011 to program Hot AC WMC-FM, then added our AC WRVR and Country WLFP. Another memorable moment is launching our brand-new Country station from the ground up in 2014. It was a rewarding feeling to see our vision come to fruition, and being a dominant Country player here in Memphis. Max Volume, KOZZ: We bought a giant new building. We gutted it and ran 13 miles of Ethernet, CAT-5 wiring and built a state-of-the-art new millennium broadcast facility. We built all new studios, with all new equipment. We went with WideOrbit initially, but had to switch to Next Gen. WideOrbit is fine for music stations, but highly incompatible with our sports station programming, since we have four music stations and four sports stations. Elizabethany, WIHT: I officially got into radio at the beginning of the decade! I’ll never forget that a tornado touched down a couple miles away the first week I was ever on the air, and my PD telling me to remain calm. A girl from the east coast does not “remain calm” when hearing about a tornado. The biggest personal highlight was getting the call that I was hired here at WIHT, my childhood station full of legends. I happy cried for weeks. |
Toby Knapp, WASH: I got to be a part of so many legendary stations in all formats… was a part of team which made WIHT legendary. Had the chance to be APD for Jeff Kapugi, Thea Mitchem, Mark Medina and Tommy Chuck. I’m proud that craptastic traffic reports kept PMD on WIHT at #1 for so long. I’m proud we started a new adventure of reinvention with Jill Kempton, Chilli Amar and Kala Simmons on WASH-FM with Toby+Chilli in the Morning. But… mostly, I’m proud of all of the ways our daughter, Kyla, has continued to grow, become, evolve and love… as a human. I can’t believe I played a part in helping this life come into a world I hope she continues to change.
Fish, WKRZ: What I’m currently doing now, because when I started the decade I wasn’t the APD/MD of the station. Jagger, WKSS: Advancing from a Music Director to a Program Director. Big accomplishment for me. Sassy, WKXJ: I landed my first PD gig in 2014, a definite career highlight! Getting acknowledgement from Entercom Chairman / President / CEO David Field at a company meeting was also pretty memorable. Rod Phillips, iHeartMedia: Leading the ‘re-launch’ of Y100 as the first Elvis Duran affiliate outside of NYC that catapulted the station back to a dominant position in South Florida. Then moving my family to Nashville and diving into music row with the best gig I’ve ever had and is my most memorable moment. Leading the launch and continued growth of the iHeartCountry brand while working with our 150 radio stations and PDs helps make this the best decade of my life.
