As the decade approaches its close, professionally what have been your most memorable moments during this past decade?

Dan Hunt, WWPW: I’ve loved my last decade in Radio. First, winning a Marconi with my All-Star Team at Wired 96.5 in Philly. Buster is now Program Director at Q102 / Philly. Mijo is now Program Director at Power 96 / Miami. Bonics is now Program Director Go 95.3 / Minneapolis. Beth Kent is now Marketing Director at Hot 97 / NYC. Chunky is now nationally syndicated by Townsquare / Compass Media. Grooves now owns his own radio stations and is nationally syndicated. The list of names goes on and on. I am grateful to still call all these people my friends. Second, the epic turnaround of Power 96.1 with my team in Atlanta. Everyone told us it couldn’t be done, but over the past six years, we’ve broken revenue/ratings goals, sold out Jingle Balls and got nominated for multiple Marconi Awards! We even displaced our heritage competitors in process. It’s truly the team that makes a radio station special. Can’t wait to see what the next decade brings for all of us.

Joey Brooks, iHeartMedia: This was a decade of firsts for me. It started with my first full-time major market job at Q102 in Philly. From there, my first time working outside of the U.S. at CHUM FM in Toronto. First PD job at WMIA Miami and now first SVPP role for iHeartMedia Connecticut. It was a great decade of learning and working with incredible stations and people!

Mike “OD” O’Donnell, WKRZ: Having the honor to lead one of the best teams at 98.5 KRZ for an entire decade at #1!

Rick Vaughn, KENZ: Our superstar team at WKSC Chicago #1 in every demo under 55, building and launching both Power 96-1 and WRDA in Atlanta, returning KBER 101 back to #1 Men 25-54 in Salt Lake City, and I’m also enjoying this new KENZ toy we made.

Dom Theodore, Radio Animal Media Strategies: There are too many to count, but the whole experience of going out on my own and starting my own companies, as well as venturing into station ownership, has been rewarding and very memorable.

Matt Johnson, KSLZ: When I got to program a PPM station in Salt Lake City at the beginning of the decade was pretty memorable for me.

Josh Wolff, WAEB: Being mentored by some of the best in the industry and having the opportunity to share and apply that knowledge to Syracuse University students.

Twisted Todd, WTPT: Playing bass onstage with Skillet back at the Planet’s 2014 birthday bash still tops the list!

Frankie V, KSSX: So many memorable moments in my career over the past decade! I’ve been so fortunate for everything I’ve gotten to do. The most memorable moment of them all was my move back to Boston and getting to work in the same building as my brother Mikey V (APD/MD/Nights at KISS 108)! It was shorter lived than planned but I will forever be grateful for that year! #VBROS #FamilyFirst

Java Joel, WAKS: Becoming PD at Kiss FM / Cleveland was a very memorable moment for sure, but nothing comes close to the birth of my son, Charley – January 11th, 2013- Greatest day of my life!

Buster, WIOQ: There are so many memorable moments from a decade that defined my professional career. Becoming PD for the first time at 26 in Philly… then coming back years later for some unfinished business was the cherry on top.

Adam Rivers, WKCI: Getting to do PM Drive and program a station, KC101, that I listened to growing up.

Jonathan Reed, WNOK: Considering the personal changes in my life over the past 6 months, professionally I feel blessed and thankful for all that has happened in the past decade. I love the fact that I get to continue to work in media and entertainment on a daily basis. Meet artists, put together promotions, listen to music, meet people, currently working for a great heritage brand while living in Columbia that is growing and becoming active. I hope that I can continue to grow both professionally and personally in the next decade but also play an important role to do what’s good for the community.

Bartel. WKTU: A full decade of helping lead 103.5 KTU as THE Beat of New York and working with our amazingly talented staff! Building a new summer show in 2012 and watching the KTUPhoria brand grow year after year. The amazing relationships that have grown tremendously between all of us here at KTU with our partners, artists, labels, management and staff. May all of these continue to grow to even higher heights in the 20’s!

Valentine, WBHT: Hands down landing in Miami at Y100 as APD/nights and working with an awesome crew…Shout-out to Alex Tear, what up!?

Chris Michaels, FM100: Moving to Memphis and working for Entercom! This has been an amazing decade for my career, as I joined in 2011 to program Hot AC WMC-FM, then added our AC WRVR and Country WLFP. Another memorable moment is launching our brand-new Country station from the ground up in 2014. It was a rewarding feeling to see our vision come to fruition, and being a dominant Country player here in Memphis.

Max Volume, KOZZ: We bought a giant new building. We gutted it and ran 13 miles of Ethernet, CAT-5 wiring and built a state-of-the-art new millennium broadcast facility. We built all new studios, with all new equipment. We went with WideOrbit initially, but had to switch to Next Gen. WideOrbit is fine for music stations, but highly incompatible with our sports station programming, since we have four music stations and four sports stations.

Elizabethany, WIHT: I officially got into radio at the beginning of the decade! I’ll never forget that a tornado touched down a couple miles away the first week I was ever on the air, and my PD telling me to remain calm. A girl from the east coast does not “remain calm” when hearing about a tornado. The biggest personal highlight was getting the call that I was hired here at WIHT, my childhood station full of legends. I happy cried for weeks.
Pop culture moments that I won’t forget: being on the air while the results came in for the 2016 election and trying to figure out how to handle it personally and professionally. Playing songs like Gangnam Style, Harlem Shake, Old Town Road, and The Fox. The wild fandoms of K-Pop and One Direction
Personal/station achievements: After a tornado in Joplin, we packed up multiple 18-wheelers full of donations and drove them all the way there. I also helped surprise a high schooler who had asked Justin Bieber to prom… he sent us a video inviting her to be his guest to the Billboard Awards, and we showed up to her prom to play the video. Here in DC, we spent an entire day as “Carly 99.5” as we broadcasted from outside the building and swabbing people trying to find a bone marrow donor for our listener, Carly.
Overall this decade has been about watching what I say while staying true to my own opinions. Don’t get canceled, but also don’t fall for the trap that is believing everything the internet believes.

Erik Bradley, B96: That I was lucky and blessed enough to enjoy another decade working for my very favorite radio station. Launching the new 104-3 Jams with Todd Cavanah on the day of the Entercom / CBS Radio merger. Too many memories to mention with some of my very favorite artists/friends/industry idols. Ten B96 Summer Bashes and Ten B96 Jingle Bashes!

Toby Knapp, WASH: I got to be a part of so many legendary stations in all formats… was a part of team which made WIHT legendary. Had the chance to be APD for Jeff Kapugi, Thea Mitchem, Mark Medina and Tommy Chuck. I’m proud that craptastic traffic reports kept PMD on WIHT at #1 for so long. I’m proud we started a new adventure of reinvention with Jill Kempton, Chilli Amar and Kala Simmons on WASH-FM with Toby+Chilli in the Morning. But… mostly, I’m proud of all of the ways our daughter, Kyla, has continued to grow, become, evolve and love… as a human. I can’t believe I played a part in helping this life come into a world I hope she continues to change.

Kobe, WWHT: Going to my first iHeart Jingle Ball in 2017 and seeing the Z100 event up close is something that I’ll always remember. Giving away $10,000 every year here in Syracuse for the past four years is always a fun part and memorable part of the job.

Fish, WKRZ: What I’m currently doing now, because when I started the decade I wasn’t the APD/MD of the station.

Jagger, WKSS: Advancing from a Music Director to a Program Director. Big accomplishment for me.

Sassy, WKXJ: I landed my first PD gig in 2014, a definite career highlight! Getting acknowledgement from Entercom Chairman / President / CEO David Field at a company meeting was also pretty memorable.

Rod Phillips, iHeartMedia: Leading the ‘re-launch’ of Y100 as the first Elvis Duran affiliate outside of NYC that catapulted the station back to a dominant position in South Florida. Then moving my family to Nashville and diving into music row with the best gig I’ve ever had and is my most memorable moment. Leading the launch and continued growth of the iHeartCountry brand while working with our 150 radio stations and PDs helps make this the best decade of my life.

Kevin Kash, WIYY: Last 10 years, got back in the business from the ‘08 crunch. Appreciate the door that re-opened and all of the interesting, new people I’ve met. Leaned more about programming, music, on-air. Grateful. Vision to the future.
