What’s the best way to deal with feuding egos on your staff? |

Carolyn Stone/WRWK: Lock them in the station van together…I’m kidding! Jessica Lee/WDYL: Ignore their egos…why feed the fire? Sparky/KIBZ: Thank God I don’t have to deal with that. Cindy Miller/WOTT: It’s like when you have kids – you have to love them all equally. Tell them all they’re special! Tell them all they’re you’re favorite. Scott Less/KXFX: I guess the best way I’ve found is to treat everyone equally. From the highest paid morning show talent to the hourly part-timer, everyone has an important role in the success of the station. If everyone is treated equally and they know what to expect from me as a manager, it seems goals are met and egos are less bothersome. And, if everyone has the best interest of the station in mind, meaning that the station is more important than any individual’s ego, it’s easy to maintain the goal: It’s not about you, it’s about the station. Rick Vaughn/WIOQ: I don’t have that issue here but if I did I would fire the one who has the bigger ego. Mo’ Bounce/KXXM: Strip clubs and some steak and fries. |
Toby Knapp/WIHT: Fire the trouble makers. Billy The Kidd/KHKS: We don’t really have that issue here…but it could make for some interesting crosstalk. Eric Chase/WAEB: Fire the lesser talent. Mike Rossi/WSTW: Italian Water Ice always calms everyone down. Skywalker/WSPK: It’s not an issue here. Keith Allen/WQEN: I don’t have any. Bob Patrick/WXLK: I can’t speak for everyone, but what I do is tell them they suck and ask them to meet me outside near the station van to discuss it. (Of course, I’m joking) Chris Reed/KSMB: Get out of the work environment and go to another place in the “real world” and talk it out. Billy The Baby DJ/KHTT: We take them off remotes and give them grunt work. We hit them in the wallet. Maxwell/WNCI: I tell them to go get me coffee. |
Brody/WDCG: Put them in overnights. If that doesn’t help, I hear Walmart’s hiring. Chase Murphy/WFBC: Put them in a no holds barred, steel cage match with Stone Cold Steve Austin as guest referee. Trey Morgan/WKCI: We really don’t have that problem here, but I would say give the morning guy what he wants. Jon Zellner/XM Satellite: Feuding egos? Nobody in radio has an ego. Honestly, the best way to do deal with it is to talk everything out and involve all affected parties. Being humble is an attribute that only the most talented people possess…inflated egos are usually displayed by people in the “life’s too short” pile who are trying to cover up for their own shortcomings. I have little patience for them. Karson With A K/WHBQ: Sit them down in my office and make then listen to *NSYNC’s “Celebrity.” Tim Rainey/WNOU: KY wrestling matches. Due to confidentiality clauses, I cannot discuss it any further. JJ Rice/WBLI: Check your ego at the door! The only folks I want to work with are TEAM PLAYERS! |
