Post Malone ruled last night’s 2020 Billboard Music Awards show, earning nine awards in total throughout the night. Posty won for Top Artist overall, as well as Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Male Artist, Top Rap Tour and Top Rap Album.
Billie Eilish won three BBMAs, including Top New Artist. Kanye West earned four awards, all in the Christian and Gospel categories for his Jesus is King album. Harry Styles was given the fan-voted Billboard Chart Achievement Award for 2020.
Other multi-award winners included Khalid with five, the Jonas Brothers with three and Lil Nas X, as “Old Town Road” won four BBMAs. Additionally, Killer Mike was honored with the inaugural Change Maker award, due to his “dedication to equality, social justice and financial literacy in the Black community.”
Of course, the awards show was full of musical performances, all recorded individually from around the globe. Post Malone played two songs from what appeared to be an industrial site, Doja Cat performed a medley with an old-school Broadway look, Garth Brooks created a sing-along for his hit “Friends in Low Places” via a virtual crowd, BTS performed “Dynamite” with a live band arrangement and Demi Lovato played her new, politically charged song “Commander in Chief.”
The show was hosted by Kelly Clarkson, socially distant from the winners and performers.
