The nominations for the 2021 American Music Awards were announced this morning as Olivia Rodrigo leads the pack with seven nods. Rodrigo is up for Artist of the Year, Favorite Trending Song, New Artist of the Year, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Female Pop Artist, Favorite Pop Album and Favorite Pop Song.
Following Rodrigo with six nominations is The Weeknd, followed by Bad Bunny, Doja Cat and Giveon with five each.
Along with Rodrigo, the Artist of the Year nominees are Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, BTS, Drake and The Weeknd. Swift has the record for the most AMA wins of all time, with 32.
Country star Morgan Wallen is nominated twice but the AMA producers have released a statement saying Wallen will not be part of the show itself, due to the controversy surrounding his racial comments earlier this year. “As his conduct does not align with our core values, we will not be including him on the show in any capacity,” the statement reads. “We plan to evaluate his progress in doing meaningful work as an ally to the Black community and will consider his participation in future shows.”
