The Weeknd has been tapped to star, co-write and executive a new series for HBO, titled The Idol. The series is currently in development and Deadline describes the plot as being about “a female pop singer who starts a romance with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.”
Euphoia creator Sam Levinson co-created the series with The Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye) and his producing partner Reza Fahim.
The Weeknd has some acting experience in front of the camera, playing himself in the 2019 Adam Sandler drama Uncut Gems.
