Madonna lands atop the Billboard 200 this week with Madame X, giving the Pop icon the ninth #1 album of her career. Nielsen Music reports that Madame X earned 95,000 equivalent album units, 90,000 of which were in album sales. Her last #1 album was 2012’s MDNA. Madonna also has the second-most #1 albums of any female artists, trailing Barbra Streisand. Sales of Madame X were boosted by a ticket/album bundle as well as various merchandise bundles via her website.
Right behind Madonna is another legendary artist, as Bruce Springsteen‘s Western Stars debuts at #2, with 66,000 equivalent album units. It is the Boss’s 20th Top 10 album overall. His last Top 10 release was the 2016 compilation Chapter and Verse. Billboard notes the last time Madonna and Springsteen were #1 and #2 together at the same time on the chart was back in early 1985 with Like a Virgin and Born in the U.S.A.
Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? is at #3 with Happiness Begins from Jonas Brothers at #4.
The next debut this week comes from UK band Bastille and their new album Doom Days. It earned 41,000 equivalent album units, also in part due to a ticket bundle.
The rest of the Top 10 is made up of Khalid (#6), Polo G (#7), DaBaby (#8), Lizzo (#9) and Ariana Grande (#10).
