After releasing the title track earlier this month, Lorde has unveiled all the details of her third album, Solar Power. The record will land on August 20, with a world tour set in the first half of 2022.
“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde said in a statement. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”
In a newsletter to her fans, Lorde said that Solar Power will be out on vinyl and digitally but not as a traditional CD. She wrote, “No CDs this time. I didn’t wanna make something that would end up in a landfill in 2 years, but more than that, I wanted to make something that symbolised my commitment to asking questions of our systems, and making stuff with intention and sensitivity.
“I’m calling it a music box. It’ll be the same size and shape as a CD, and you can buy it where CDs live, but this is something totally different. If you’re torn on which hold-in-your-hands, flip-through-the-pages thing to buy to best enjoy this album, honestly, I’d go for the music box. You’ll know more about this very soon.”
Lorde’s 2022 Solar Power tour will begin in her homeland of New Zealand on February 26 and visit Australia, North America, the UK and Europe, with dates announced up to June 23 in Berlin, Germany. Full tour dates and ticket links are available at lorde.co.nz.
