The 2018 BET Awards were handed out Sunday night, with Kendrick Lamar and Cardi B heading home as the big winners. Lamar was named Best Male Hip Hop Artist and his DAMN. won as Album of the Year. Cardi B won as Best Female Hip Hop Artist and her hit “Bodak Yellow” was given the Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award.
Other notable winners included Beyoncé for Best Female R&B / Pop Artist, Bruno Mars as Best Male R&B / Pop Artist, Migos for Best Group and Drake‘s “God’s Plan” as Video of the Year. SZA won the Best New Artist award. Additionally, Anita Baker was honored with BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jamie Foxx hosted the event and at one point, urged Donald Glover up onto the stage to perform a bit of his Childish Gambino hit “This is America.” Other notable performances included Meek Mill, who returned to the spotlight by debuting a new song, “Stay Woke,” and honoring the late XXXTentacion and Jimmy Wopo. Nicki Minaj also performed a medley of “Chun Li,” “Rich Sex” and “Big Bank.”
