Katy Perry and her fiance, actor Orlando Bloom, welcomed their daughter Daisy Dove Bloom into the world earlier this week, days before the release of the Pop star’s new album Smile. In an Instagram post shared by Bloom via UNICEF (Perry and Bloom are ambassadors of the charity organization), the couple said, “We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter.” They added that “we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was” and asked for donations to UNICEF to help the organization “make sure every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare.”
Perry’s new album Smile lands tomorrow and the singer has released a handful of animated videos this week, with a full mobile video game called Katy’s Quest coming on Friday as well.
In a new interview with NPR, Perry said, “I’m just going to be a mom, but I’m definitely one of those moms that’s going to continue to do what she loves. I think it’s a really old narrative that you have to give up life and just become a mother. I’ll have interviewers ask me, ‘What, are you just going to go away?’ I’m like, ‘You know Beyoncé has twins and another child!? It’s fine! Maybe you should reframe.'”
