The 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards were handed out over the weekend in Rotterdam, with a wide variety of international acts taking home trophies. Justin Bieber won a pair of EMAs, as his hit “Sorry” was named Best Song while the “Beliebers” earned him Biggest Fans. He also earned the Worldwide Act trophy for Canada. Twenty One Pilots were named Best Live Act as well as Best Alternative Group. Best Female Artist went to Lady Gaga as well as Best Look.
The Weeknd‘s new video for “Starboy” was named Best Video. Shawn Mendes was named Best Male Artist while Zara Larsson took home the Best New Artist EMA. Other notable winners included Drake (Best Hip Hop), Fifth Harmony (Best Pop), Coldplay (Best Rock) and DNCE (Best Push).
Green Day were honored with the Global Icon Award, presented by Idris Elba, and played their current hit “Bang Bang.” Mendes, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars and Kings of Leon were among the performers on the show.
