Columbia Records has named Jay Schumer Senior Vice President of Marketing, it was announced today by Jenifer Mallory, General Manager for Columbia Records, to whom Jay reports. Jay will continue to be based in New York, heading up Columbia’s East Coast Marketing operations. Most recently, Jay was Vice President of Marketing for Columbia.
“Jay is an incredibly creative marketing executive with a very intuitive understanding of the business,” stated Mallory. “His deep knowledge and passion for music as well as his years of experience make him a powerful marketing force at Columbia. I’m certain he will thrive in his new role continuing to drive strategy and lead the wider team to develop cutting edge campaigns for our artists.”

In 2013, Jay was appointed Vice President of Marketing and has since spearheaded campaigns for a multitude of artists including Tyler, The Creator, Russ, HAIM, LCD Soundsystem, N*E*R*D, Lil Peep, The Internet, Bring Me The Horizon, Foster The People, and more.
During his tenure at Sony/Columbia, Jay has held a variety of positions within the Sales and Marketing departments. He started as an assistant on the Columbia Sales team and quickly moved up within the department, specializing in breaking new and developing artists on the roster. Jay went on to run Columbia’s first-ever Street Marketing department, expanding the organization to 50 reps across the US who worked both Columbia and Epic artists, and played a key role in breakthrough campaigns for Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, and Coheed & Cambria. Jay moved over to work with Amazon, Target, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble and the independent retail community to craft campaigns for all of Columbia’s releases. He executed significant events and in-store appearances for iconic artists Beyoncé, One Direction, Patti Smith, John Mayer, Jennifer Lopez, and more.
