FMQB sends condolences to the friends and family of EMI Music marketing director and long-time Virgin regional Gary Gratzer, who passed away on Thursday, April 18 in Denver. WXPN/Philadelphia OM/MD Dan Reed, who worked with Gary when he covered Kentucky and North Carolina for Virgin shared his memories:
“Gary Gratzer was my local Virgin rep for many years, through my time at WNKU, WNCW and WFPK. He was a master storyteller, a great hang, and a very nice guy. He was an early and avid supporter of the NON-COMMvention, and attended the first four or so in Louisville, as well as helping tremendously with artists and sponsorships. He was the “schmooze” king, but never pushy or gross about it. Gratz LOVED music… it was more than just a job to him. I had some really fun times with Gary, including a memorable trip with him to see the Sex Pistols in Chicago in August of 1996. He had the best stories about his time in the record business, and other exploits. He was an avid (and scratch) golfer, and loved the Carolina Panthers. My sincere condolences go out to his entire family, including his brother Alan (original drummer for REO Speedwagon). I am thankful that I was his friend, and that we stayed in touch over the years.”
Services will be planned for a later date.
