The 93rd annual Academy Awards were handed out on Sunday night, with the music awards going to some familiar faces. H.E.R. won Best Original Song for “Fight for You” from Judas and the Black Messiah. H.E.R. shares the award with co-songwriters D’Mile and Tiara Thomas.
Best Score went to the trio of jazz musician Jon Batiste and Nine Inch Nails‘ Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross for Soul. Reznor and Ross won Best Score a decade ago for The Social Network. Billboard notes they were the first three-member composing team to win Best Original Score since Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Byrne and Cong Su in 1987 for The Last Emperor.
Before the Oscars officially began, pre-recorded performances of the Best Original Song nominees aired on ABC as part of the pre-show.
