The White House announced on Friday that Donald Trump has selected Geoffrey Starks as the nominee to replaced Mignon Clyburn on the Federal Communications Commission. Starks would fill out the end of a five-year term that ends June 30, 2022.
Starks currently serves as assistant bureau chief of the FCC’s enforcement bureau and also served as senior counsel at the U.S. Justice Department. His nomination must be confirmed by the Senate but already has the backing of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, according to reports.
In a statement, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said, “I congratulate Geoffrey Starks on his forthcoming nomination to serve as a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission. He has a distinguished record of public service, including in the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau, and I wish him all the best during the confirmation process.”
