Entercom Communications has announced that Aaron Axelsen will remain as Assistant Program Director and Music Director for the new ALT 105.3 (KITS-FM), the Bay Area’s Alternative, through a multi-year contract extension. Axelsen will also continue to introduce the Bay Area to new music and new artists via his long-running on-air shows, Subsonic and Soundcheck.
Bay Area native Axelsen began as an intern at KITS-FM in 1995 and was later elevated to Music Director in 1998 and Assistant Program Director in 2008. Axelsen is also the cofounder of Popscene, a San Francisco nightlife staple for over twenty years.
“Aaron Axelsen is an integral part of the new ALT 105.3 team and we’re excited to continue our professional relationship with him,” said Susan Larkin, Entercom’s Regional President and Senior Vice President and Market Manager at Entercom San Francisco. “He’s the quintessential sound of the station and has remained an important part of the station’s success for decades.”
Axelsen adds, “I’m beyond thrilled and honored to be a member of the Entercom alternative all-star team, working alongside some of the most talented and passionate programmers in the format. A huge thanks to David Field, Michael Martin, Susan Larkin, Pat Paxton and Chris Oliviero for this incredible opportunity to help launch the new ALT 105.3, as we welcome a new era for alternative music fans here in the Bay Area.”
