The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2022: Eminem, Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar, Eurythmics and Carly Simon. Additionally, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Judas Priest will be honored with the Musical Excellence Award; Harry Belafonte and Elizabeth Cotten will be presented with the Early Influence Award; and attorney Allen Grubman, record executive/producer Jimmy Iovine, and R&B singer/Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson will all be given the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
“This diverse group of inductees each had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture and helped change the course of rock & roll,” Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Chairman John Sykes said in a statement. “Their music moved generations and influenced so many artists that followed.”
Dolly Parton’s inclusion is notable because she had said in March that she was removing herself from consideration for the Hall. However, the Hall said it was too late in the voting for this change. In a tweet today, she wrote, “I am honored and humbled by the fact that I have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Of course I will accept it gracefully. Thanks to everyone that voted for me and to everyone at the @rockhall. I will continue to work hard and try to live up to the honor.”
Eminem is the only artist this year who is going into the Hall in his first year of eligibility. Also of note, Benatar is being inducted officially alongside her spouse and lifelong musical collaborator Neil Giraldo.
The induction ceremony will be held on November 5 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. It will air at a later date on HBO and stream on HBO Max. A radio simulcast will air as well on SiriusXM‘s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Radio channel 310.
