Drake has broken Michael Jackson‘s record for the most American Music Award nominees, as the superstar has earned 13 nods for the 2016 awards. Jackson was nominated 11 times in 1984. Amazingly, Drake has never actually won an AMA in his career, despite multiple nominations over the years. Rihanna has the second highest amount of nominations with seven.
Adele and Justin Bieber were both nominated five times, with Beyoncé and The Chainsmokers earning four each. BrysonTiller, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood, Fetty Wap and the Weekndwere all nominated three times each.
Drake, Adele, Beyoncé, Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots, Underwood and The Weeknd are all nominated for Artist of the Year. These 10 nominees will be narrowed to five based on fan voting through Monday, November 14. The Chainsmokers, DNCE,Alessia Cara, Shawn Mendes and Zayn Malik are all nominated for Best New Artist.
