The 2019 Billboard Music Awards were handed out Wednesday night and Drake was the big winner, earning 12 trophies throughout the show. The Canadian rapper now has the most overall BBMA wins overall with 27 throughout his career. Drake was named Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist and eight more.
Ariana Grande won the Billboard Chart Achievement Award as well as Top Female Artist, while Juice WRLD was named Top New Artist. K-Pop boy band BTS won twice. Cardi B was the most-nominated artist and walked away with Top Rap Female Artist as well as four for her contribution to Maroon 5‘s hit “Girls Like You” and another for Top Rap Song.
The awards show was hosted by Kelly Clarkson. The evening kicked off with Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie performing her brand-new single “ME!” Mariah Carey was honored with the Icon Award, presented by Jennifer Hudson, and sang a medley of her hits. Madonna performed her new single “Medellín” alongside collaborator Maluma. Other performers included The Jonas Brothers, Paula Abdul, BTS & Halsey and Grande.
