Cumulus Media has announced two staff promotions at Hot AC WRQX (Mix 107.3) in Washington, D.C. The company has promoted Mix 107.3 Music Director Ashley Nickels to Assistant Program Director for the station. In addition to her new role, Nickels will continue as Host, Middays, on Mix 107.3. Nickels joined Cumulus Media and Mix 107.3 in 2014 from KDND-FM in Sacramento, CA. Prior to that, she was Host, Nights, on KLUC in Las Vegas, NV.
In addition, Cumulus has promoted Mix 107.3 part-time radio personality Seth King as full-time Host, Nights, on the station. King’s show airs Monday through Friday from 7pm-12 Midnight. Prior to joining Mix 107.3, King was on-air at Top 40 station WXXX-FM in Burlington, VT. He has also held on-air positions at: WBRU-FM in Providence, RI; WXSS-FF in Milwaukee, WI; and WMMM-FM in Madison, WI.
Rob Roberts, Mix 107.3 Program Director, said: “Ashley was doing the job the day I walked in the building on January 1st. I’m just making it official. She’s an amazing talent with a great work ethic and passion for the station, music and promotions.”
Roberts continued: “When I first heard Seth’s aircheck, I knew there was something special about him. It was one of those moments PD’s are hoping for when they listen to someone new. Now, after hearing him on the station part-time these last few months, I knew he was the guy who could shake things up. Seth is ready for D.C. and D.C. is ready for Seth!”
Nickels said: “WOW! APD in a Top 10 market – Mama, I made it! I am so thankful for this opportunity to work with such a talented and respected programmer, Rob Roberts. I feel on top of the world right now! I can’t thank Rob, my Market Manager, Jake McCann, and Mike McVay, enough for giving me a chance to play such a big role with WRQX. As a female in this industry it can be tough sometimes, but Cumulus has always believed in me and encouraged me to take the next step. I look forward to our continued success together – Onward and upward!”
King said: “I’m quickly realizing the culture at Cumulus is one of always building people up. Everyone is driven and positive, and I can’t wait to accomplish great things with Rob and the entire programming team! Thanks to Rob, Jake McCann and Mike McVay for all the support.”
