Back in 2003, my first full time radio gig, Portland Maine! I was so new the business, my eyes were so wide open for the future. I did 3p-midnight on WJBQ, 97dot9 during the week in this studio. I would then drive to Boston on the weekends to host Club Kiss on Kiss 108, and I would drive back to Portland in time for my Monday show! The hustle and grind began here.
Frankie V: I remember it being a huge day in Portland Maine for our summer show! Hulk Hogan's daughter Brooke had a single out and she was performing at our show. Hulk agreed to come and do meet and greets. To this day, 19 years later, this photo is still one of my favorites in my career!
After 2 years in Portland Maine I made the move to the legendary Kiss 95.7 in Hartford Connecticut! This photo with The Veronicas sums up my nearly 2 years there! Joey Brooks and I developed our craft while laughing our way to the top!
I loved Hartford, but in 2006, it was time to spread my wings a bit and send out my demo tape! I wanted to bring “Frankie’s Neighborhood” to the Majors. I sent my tape out to many great stations and I got the call, to move across the country, and take on the night show at Channel 933 in San Diego! Apparently in this photo I thought to fit in, in California, I had to dress like a rejected Backstreet Boy!
While in San Diego I dreamed of one day cracking the mic on the station every top 40 radio personality dreamed of being on, 102.7 KIIS-FM in Los Angeles! In 2007 that dream became a reality. To this day I'm still on the air on KIIS-FM! When the Wango Tango and Jingle Ball programs come out, I need to pinch myself to know I’m not dreaming! A kid from Boston gets his face on a page on the program book!!
I’ve been so fortunate to meet many artists over the past 20 years! My favorite is getting to meet them before they become super stars! Back I’m around 2009 there was a little-known artist by the name of Justin Bieber that came by the station. He challenged me to a water chugging contest. I won. He went on to super stardom. The rest is history!
In 2015 my dad passed away. My heart felt empty. Being on the west coast away from family is not what I wanted anymore. I didn’t know how I was going to do it, but I needed to be back home in Boston. Days after his passing the phone rang. I was offered the morning show host position on one of the stations I grew up listening to, JAM’N 94.5! It was a short-lived stay, but one I’d never trade the world for. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to move back to Boston to be with family when they needed me. I lasted exactly 1 year on air at JAM’N 94.5, but it was exactly what I needed on my journey!
After things changed in Boston, much of my career was in the air! I was fortunate to have many stations, companies, labels, etc. all reach out wanting to talk about job opportunities. I was overwhelmed by this amazing business. While I was pondering what was next, San Diego called! They were launching a rhythm station and wanted to bring me back as APD/MD/Afternoons! I called my mom. She cried. I cried. I moved back to San Diego for round #2!
After about a year in afternoons and some other shifting, I went back to mornings in San Diego, but this time on JAM’N 95.7! It was amazing to hear the reaction of San Diego’s listeners that were excited to hear me in mornings again. I regained my confidence in morning drive and had some of my best moments of my career hosting that morning show!
While hosting the JAM’N 95.7 morning show I got a call to come to Mariah Carey’s house for a small party. At first, I thought it was a joke. That joke turned into reality. This photo is framed on my mom’s refrigerator at home!
I truly loved my time doing mornings on JAM’N 95.7 creating something brand new for the city! I held down that morning spot for a couple years when the call came. I remember it like yesterday. I don’t show many emotions, but I began to tear up. The call that I answered told me I was moving back to Channel 933 and teaming back up with Geena The Latina! She is like a sister to me in a San Diego. We began mornings together in 2010, and now, in 2020… 10 years later… we teamed up again to co-host mornings on the station that brought me to San Diego in 2006! My dad was calling shots from above. I am back to where I was when I left for Boston, for family, back in 2015!
One of my dreams alongside radio was to also do consistent TV work as well! Over the past year or so I started a one day a week segment on one of San Diego’s biggest news stations, CBS 8! That one day a week segment has turned into 5 mornings a week and an opportunity I never thought would happen. I get to be on morning radio and morning tv every day!!
Although I LOVE it in San Diego with all that I do and have created out west, I’ve always dreamed about doing a show with my brother Mikey V (APD/MD/PMD at KISS 108 Boston)! That dream has become a reality. During the pandemic we launched a VBROS WORLDWIDE PODCAST along with our mom, Mommy V! We spend time working on our craft together, getting our cadence down, and eventually turned it into a demo tape. That demo tape turned into doing afternoons on arguably one of the biggest and most legendary top 40 stations ever, the one I grew up on, the that my friends and family listen to daily...KISS 108!!!! This photo is at Kiss Concert 2022! It was the first time my mom has ever seen me on stage. It’s a moment I will always remember. Walking out, on stage, as THE VBROS… alongside my best friend and brother Mikey V and our producer Gianna!
