Childish Gambino and Camila Cabello took home the most moonmen at MTV‘s Video Music Awards on Monday night. Cabello won the two biggest awards of the night, Video of the Year for “Havana” and Artist of the year. “This is America” earned Donald Glover‘s musical alter ego awards for Video with a Message, Best Direction and Best Choreography.
Other multiple award winners from the VMAs included Cardi B for Best New Artist and Song of Summer (“I Like It”). “APES**T” by The Carters won Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.
Jennifer Lopez was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and performed a medley of her hits. Other performers included Nicki Minaj showcasing tracks from her new album Queen, Post Malone teaming up with Aerosmith, Travis Scott celebrating his new hit album Astroworld and Ariana Grande, whose “God is a Woman” performance leaned heavily on theological visuals.
Madonna made an appearance to speak in part about the late Aretha Franklin, but was criticized for the wide-ranging speech that barely touched on the Queen of Soul.
