Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars was the big winner at the 2017 American Music Awards, but as always, the performances stole the show during the broadcast.
Mars, who was not in attendance at the AMAs, earned seven awards in total, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock, Favorite Album – Pop/Rock, Favorite Male Artist – Soul/R&B, Favorite Album – Soul/R&B and Favorite Song – Soul/R&B.
Niall Horan was named New Artist of the Year, while Collaboration of the Year went to “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber, which also was named Favorite Song – Pop/Rock. Coldplay won Tour of the Year. Other notable winners included Drake, Beyoncé, The Chainsmokers, Linkin Park and Kendrick Lamar, among others. Additionally, Diana Ross was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The AMAs kicked off with P!nk & Kelly Clarkson dueting on a cover of R.E.M.‘s “Everybody Hurts.” The show featured the first-ever TV performance of Selena Gomez‘s collaboration with Marshmello, “Wolves,” in a horror film-inspired setting. Christina Aguilera was up to the task of performing a medley of Whitney Houston songs in honor of the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard soundtrack. P!nk returned later by continuing to one-up her previous awards show performances. This time, the singer hung from the side of a JW Marriott building in downtown Los Angeles while singing “Beautiful Trauma,” accompanied by six dancers.
