Green Day singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong will release his YouTube covers series No Fun Mondays as a 14-song collection on November 27 via Reprise/Warner Records on vinyl, CD and digitally. Additionally, limited baby blue colored vinyl will be available at U.S. independent music retailers.
The No Fun Mondays series launched in March on Green Day’s YouTube channel. Armstrong expected to spend much of this year on the road, touring in support of Green Day’s latest album Father of All…, as part of the Hella Mega Tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy. However, once the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to put those plans on pause, Armstrong started recording and releasing cover songs online instead. “While we’ve all been in quarantine I’ve been reflecting on the things that matter the most in my life: family, friends, and, of course, music,” he said. “I figure if we have to spend this time in isolation at least we can be alone together.”
No Fun Mondays features 14 covers, including Tommy James and the Shondells‘ “I Think We’re Alone Now,” which kicked off the series, along with The Bangles‘ “Manic Monday,” “Gimme Some Truth” by John Lennon, “Police on My Back” from The Clash and “That Thing You Do!” from the 1995 Tom Hanks film, in honor of its songwriter, Adam Schlesinger, who passed away from COVID-19 complications in April.
The Hella Mega Tour has been rescheduled to take place in 2021, starting June 9 in Vienna, Austria.
