Nominees were announced for the 59th annual Grammy Awards this morning, with Beyoncé leading the pack, earning nine nods. Lemonade is nominated for Album of the Year, while “Formation” is up for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year. “Hold Up” was nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance while “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” her collaboration with Jack White, was surprisingly nominated in the Best Rock Performance category. Another Lemonade track, “Freedom” featuring Kendrick Lamar, is nominated for Best Rap/Sung Performance. Lemonade is also nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Music Film. The video for “Formation” also earned a Best Music Video nomination.
Adele earned five nods and like Beyoncé, is among the nominees for the three major categories. Her massive selling album 25 is nominated in Album of the Year, while “Hello” is nominated in both Record of the Year and Song of the Year, along with Best Pop Solo Performance. 25 is also up for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West all are up for eight Grammys each. Drake’s hit album Views is also nominated for Album of the Year, along with Beyoncé, Adele, Justin Bieber (Purpose) and Sturgill Simpson (A Sailor’s Guide to Earth). Bieber was also nominated for Song of the Year for his hit “Love Yourself.”
The other Record of the Year nominees are “7 Years” by Lukas Graham, Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out” and “Work” by Rihanna featuring Drake. “7 Years” is also up for Song of the Year, as is Mike Posner‘s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza.”
The nominees for Best New Artist are Country singer Kelsea Ballerini, hitmakers The Chainsmokers, Chance the Rapper, singer-songwriter Maren Morris and Hip Hop artist Anderson.Paak. In total, Chance the Rapper is up for seven Grammys.
The late David Bowie was nominated five times for his final album Blackstar and its title track.
Additionally, the 2017 Grammy Nominees album has been announced. It will arrive on January 20 via Atlantic Records. A portion of album proceeds benefit the Grammy Museum Foundation and MusiCares Foundation.
The Grammys will be handed out live on CBS on February 12.
