The soundtrack to A Star Is Born debuts atop the latest Billboard 200 chart, with the biggest week for a soundtrack in over three-and-half years. The collection of tunes from Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper earned 231,000 equivalent album units, with 162,000 in album sales. This gives Gaga her fifth #1 release in the 2010’s, which according to Billboard makes her the woman with the most #1 albums in this decade. The last soundtrack to have a larger chart week was Fifty Shades of Grey back in February of 2015. Also Billboard notes that after just one week, A Star Is Born is already the third biggest-selling soundtrack of 2018 (after The Greatest Showman and Black Panther).
Coming in at #2 on the chart is a debut from twenty one pilots, whose newest album Trench earned 175,000 units, giving the duo their biggest week ever. Their last album, the 2015 smash Blurryface, debuted at #1 and is still on the Billboard 200 over three years later.
Last week’s #1, Tha Carter V from Lil Wayne moves back to #3. The third top ten debut of the week is from rappers Lil Baby and Gunna, who teamed up for Drip Harder, arriving at #4. Veteran Country artist Eric Church debuts at #5 with Desperate Man.
Debuting at #6 is Traces from former Journey singer Steve Perry, who had essentially retired from performing before his surprise comeback with his new album. Perry’s last solo record came out in 1994 and debuted at #15, according to Billboard. The sixth debut in this week’s top ten is Christian act for KING & COUNTRY with Burn the Ships.
The top ten is rounded out by Drake (#8), Travis Scott (#9) and Post Malone (#10).
